Trackpad & Keyboard Replacement & Repair Service

We service all keyboard and trackpad issues with all major brands.

Trackpad Issues

laptop trackpad replacement

Trackpads fail for a number of reasons. Some common issues we see are cracks and no touch response. Most trackpads crack because the housing get’s bent or a battery swells up underneath the trackpad causing pressure. Sometimes the right and left click fail or there is no haptic feedback. We can fix all these issues.

Keyboard Issues

keyboard replacement

We replace a lot of keyboards on laptops. Main culprit is liquid damage. If you even get a little bit of water on your keyboard you may get individual keys that don’t work or strings of keys. The other common issue is keys that have been removed by accident or by children.

Keyboard Types

keyboard repair

There are two types of keyboards for laptops. There are stand alone keyboards and riveted keyboards. Stand alone keyboards are easily removable and replaceable keyboards. Riveted keyboards are like the one above have plastic welds holding them to the palm rest. These keyboards are more difficult to replace and require more disassembly and time. Sometimes we have to replace the whole top case with keyboard pre-riveted.

What if my Keyboard or Trackpad has liquid damage?

When it comes to liquid damage we need to check the rest of the internals to insure the device is a candidate for repair. We replace liquid damaged peripheral components such as keyboards, trackpads and so on. However, if the computer has severe liquid damage such as corrosion on the motherboard or burns etc, we may decline the device for repair.

What if I provide my own part?

We can use it but will not provide a warranty once the device leaves the shop.

Can you replace just a few keys?

Sounds easy enough right? Just the N or O key got ripped off by an out of control child and needs to be replaced. The issue is this: Each keyboard has it’s own unique key style & mounting brackets. Sourcing them is hard and often the wrong part is delivered. The keys are also crazy hard to put back on because the mounting brackets have to snap together just right. Just buy the part for $3 and try it yourself if you have doubts. Short answer is NO we do not just replace individual keys. Plus many keyboards are very inexpensive and just makes sense to do it the right way the first time.

Can you just dry or clean out my keyboard to get the keys working again?

No, just drying the keyboard if it has liquid damage or removing the keys and cleaning will not restore key functionality. The issue is when the traces get wet or damaged by debris cleaning will not reconnect or restore those damaged traces. They are basically ceramic conductive traces and the keyboard needs to be replaced with a new part to restore them.

Can you clean my dirty keyboard or laptop?

As you might imagine, we get some really nasty looking computers here. Thank goodness for Nitrile surgical gloves! We don’t even want to imagine what is all over peoples computers and do our best to block those images from our minds. With all that said, if you bring us a computer covered in unknown substances and goop or hot cheeto dust then you can safely know we will not clean it for you. It’s just not in our job description. We will hapilly fix what ever issue you have just don’t expect us to clean your machine. If you want to clean your device just damp some 91% alcohol on a paper towel and wipe it down. Maybe even before we have to work on it if you are nice 🙂
